Elias M. Herrington was born and raised in The Plains, Fauquier Co, Va. Worked as a farmer and blacksmith until
he enlisted 30 July 1861 at Salem.
27 Jun 1862 wounded at Gaines Mill
5 Dec 1862 promoted to 2nd Lt.
3 July 1863 wounded at Gettysburg
Aug-Oct 1863 at Hospital #4 Richmond
15 Oct 1863 Furloughed 60 days
15 Jan captured in Fauquier and sent to Old Capitol Prison, Wash. DC
4 Feb 1865 sent to Elmyra, NY
7 July 1865 released
He returned to The Plains and married Florida Virginia Moore. They raised 3 children. He operated a Dry Goods
Store until his death,4 Feb 1906
