History of the 8th

Company K mustered into service into the 8th
Virginia infantry in July 30 1861 in Warrenton,Virginia.
Company K had a strength of 109 men on that July day,
from around Salem (now Marshall)  and the northern area of Fauquier County,
Va. The Captain was Robert T. Scott
The 8th Virginia Infantry was  originally under the
command of Col. Eppa Hunton, General Pickett's
Brigade, General Longstreet's Corps., in General
Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.
Other Companies of the 8th were
A, D, E, F, H, I, from Loudoun;
B, K Fauquier;
C, Prince William;
and G, Fairfax.
